Welcome to the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences

At the SJSU Lurie College of Education’s Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences (CDS), students engage in a rigorous academic and clinical journey designed to prepare them for meaningful careers supporting individuals with communication disorders and their families. Our program emphasizes culturally responsive teaching and hands-on clinical training, empowering students to apply scholarly research and evidence-based practices in real-world settings. Through this experience, students develop the knowledge, skills, and ethical foundations needed to make a lasting impact in our diverse communities.

Mission

The mission of the Department of Communicative Disorders and Sciences is to prepare creative, evidence-informed, critical thinkers and change agents for a profession in speech-language pathology and related fields. This work prioritizes clinical education and research that reflect, elevate, and advocate for the interests and needs of our diverse communities. We do this with a culturally responsive and student-centered focus.
