What is CalFresh?

CalFresh provides free money each month to help eligible students buy food. Benefits are loaded onto an EBT card and can be used at grocery stores, farmers markets, and select online retailers.

Most students can receive up to $292/month. It’s not a loan, and it doesn’t affect financial aid.

Local Programs that Increase Employability (LPIE)

Some majors and support programs at SJSU qualify as Local Programs that Increase Employability (LPIE)—which means students in those programs may be eligible for CalFresh Food Benefits, even if they don’t meet the usual work requirements.

If you think your major or program might qualify, just fill out our short form. We’ll review your request and let you know if you're eligible. If your program qualifies, we’ll send you an official LPIE letter to include with your CalFresh application.
