SJSU Transfer Success Pathway Program

The Transfer Success Pathway (TSP) is a program that provides a dual admission opportunity for eligible first-time, first-year students enrolling in California Community Colleges who commit to transferring to a California State University (CSU) within three years.

Information about the program, including eligibility requirements, the application process, and the link to the CSU Transfer Planner portal, are available at the CSU Transfer Success Pathway website.

Eligibility

High School graduates from 2023 and prior who have not completed college coursework, and high school graduates from 2024 who may have completed college coursework in the summer immediately following high school graduation are eligible to apply in order to:

  • Enter into a dual admission agreement with the CSU and receive guaranteed admission to the degree program and campus of their choice (if all requirements are met).
  • Receive early, personalized guidance from CSU/SJSU representatives to review and discuss the requirements needed to transfer to San José State University.
  • Receive financial aid information and direct access to a CSU university library.
  • Use the CSU Transfer Planner portal to:
    • Explore CSU campuses and degree programs, determine their eligibility, and enter into a dual admission agreement.
    • Map out coursework to track their progress toward CSU bachelor’s degree requirements.

As part of the agreement, students must complete either an Associate Degree for Transfer or an established course of transfer at a California community college.

How will a student know they have completed the transfer requirements?

Students will receive personalized guidance from our TSP counselor to develop a plan that will help them transfer within three years or less. Students will also map out their coursework using the CSU Transfer Planner portal to ensure they stay on track for their degree.

Is a student eligible to apply to multiple TSP programs?

TSP applicants can attend multiple community colleges; however, a student can only apply to one program and have one TSP agreement.

Are international students eligible?

Yes, provided they graduated from a U.S. high school, have no prior community college coursework completed after high school graduation, and are enrolling in a California community college.

If a student took a gap year, could they participate in the program?

Yes, provided the student did not earn any college credit since leaving high school.

How does a student submit a TSP agreement?

Students will be able to view available TSP agreements by campus and enroll in a TSP agreement through the Transfer Planner Portal.

What is the time frame to submit a TSP Agreement?

The Transfer Planner will go live at the end of May. Students will have an opportunity to explore campus programs. However, students are only able to submit a TSP Agreement during the enrollment period of August 1- September 30.

How long does the student have to fulfill the requirements of the agreement?

Students must meet the requirements of the agreement and transfer within three years to a CSU campus.

How many TSP agreements can a student have?

A student can only have one TSP agreement. They cannot enroll in multiple agreements with campuses. The system will not allow a student to enroll in more than one TSP agreement. Campus officials will review if a student attempts to enroll in more than one program.

If a student enters an agreement with another CSU, can they change the agreement at a later date?

A student can request to be removed from an agreement. If they wish to change to another campus or program, they must submit a request for release and allow time for the campus to review. The filing period for a student to submit an agreement is from August 1 - September 30. If a student requests to be released from their original agreement, they can elect to enter into an agreement with another campus or program provided it is within the filing period for an agreement.

How long do students have to cancel their agreement and enter into another agreement? Does it have to be during the Enrollment Period?

Students can request to cancel their agreement at any time. However, the ability to select another campus or major is only during their enrollment period that takes place from August 1 - September 30.

If it's determined that a student is ineligible for the TSP program, can they try to complete an agreement with another school?

No. Once a student is deemed ineligible by any campus, they will not be able to enter into any agreement with any CSU campus. Students that are not eligible for TSP will still be able to utilize the CSU Transfer Planner.

Do TSP students need to submit an admission application once they are ready to transfer to their CSU campus choice? If so, can a campus waive the application fee?

Currently, yes, students will need to apply/reapply. Future development of Transfer Planner will allow students to eventually transfer their Transfer Planner info into Cal State Apply.

If a student signs an agreement with a minimum GPA of 3.80 and the campus two years later changes the agreement to 3.50, should the campus honor a lower GPA?

Yes. Conversely, if the student signed the agreement at a lower GPA, but then two years later, the campus has a higher GPA, the campus should still honor the lower GPA that the student agreed to at the initial entry of the agreement.
